Green Roots Okinawa

About Us

Vision

At Green Roots Okinawa, we see our school as a living system. Our vision is to cultivate a space where children not only learn about nature, but step into their relationship with nature.

Our goal is to regenerate the soil, the child, and the community simultaneously. We are dedicated to protecting each child's innate sense of wonder and helping them grow into confident, capable environmental stewards. We are honored to welcome your family into our garden!

Director

I founded Green Roots Okinawa to honor children's inherent curiosity and deepen their connection to the earth. I’m a mother of two and I’ve returned to my Okinawan roots to create a space where children, families and the land can grow in right relationship. My background is in the science of how humans flourish (I have a Master’s in Positive Psychology) and I am so excited to bring that love for nature and growth into our school!

Garden Program
My heart has always been in the soil, and I’ve spent my life finding ways to get more kids out into the dirt! After serving as the Principal at the Amerasian School here in Okinawa, I helped found Green Roots to bridge the gap between traditional learning and true environmental stewardship. I’m a Master of Teaching with a background in Horticulture, and I’m so excited to help your child grow from a curious observer into a confident protector of our local ecosystem!

Wild Wonder Art
I am an artist and lifelong dancer with a deep love for nurturing curiosity and imagination. With experience supporting children in both creative and traditional learning settings, my approach blends movement and emotional awareness to create a sanctuary where every child feels safe to explore, imagine, and express themselves freely.
